14 July 2004It Really Sucks When...
Is Your Blog Getting Spammed?
It all started innocently enough. A comment here. A comment there. But more and more, I'm getting these absurd spam comments and always, for some reason, on ancient posts from my site. The latest, just a few minutes ago, is on a post that I wrote in April of last year.
Is anybody else having this problem? Is there anything I can do to stop it?
I know that there isn't someone manually entering these comments or they would stick them on the most recent posts, so there must be some kind of blog spamming bot to do their little dirty work for them. The absurd part of it how the hell do these people who are behind it convince themselves that spamming a blog is going to be anything but negative for them? As if I'm going to go online to a new pharmacy selling generic Viagra or hawking barely legal porn. Idiots from some "going concern" that is cheapening the value of my blog with their despicable sales methods.

What's barley porn? naked kernels?
Comment Spam? That's a new one for me. Fortunately, my blog has not yet become infested with such trash. Knock on wood.
Sounds like you've already got the comment spam thing figured out. (From what I recall it's mainly a MT thing.)
My comments never get spammed.
I too am being overrun with blog spam. The more I delete, the more keeps comings. It's so annoying!
I call 'em spomments.
Nice name. MT Blacklist works great, I use it.
Aneteru, where are you? It's been like 3 weeks without a new post - you're slacking off! Hope you're ok.

'Is Your Blog Getting Spammed?'.
FYI UPDATE-
I found some interesting sites on this subject. Obviouisly, it's a huge problem.
1) Comment Spam ManifestoThis monograph is a warning to the legions of spammers that the blogging world is onto them as is not going to take their nonsene lying down. I believe them since this is a community (the blogging one, of course) of heavily armed techo geeks that don't want to be fucked with.
2) MT-Blacklist/Comment Spam ClearinghouseHere's some proof in the form an MT plugin that compares all potential comments against a blacklist of known spammers. It's ingenious. It takes only a few minutes to install even if it you have to go "The Less Easy Path". Nice work, Jay Allen.
