My Next Bike?

orbea_orca.jpg

I start my Pavlovian salivation every time I see an Orbea Orca on the road. It's simply a beautiful machine. I need to start saving my pennies though: This custom bike runs about 7 grand (without taxes). <INSERT GRATUITUOUS "BUT THAT COSTS MORE THAN MY FIRST CAR" REFERENCE>

I figure if I can ride 7000 miles, then I can justify it. Right now, I'm averaging about 100 miles a week, so it'll take me a little more than a year, by which time I'll have probably ground my current bike (Cannondale Synapse) into the ground and I'll need a new set of wheels anyway.

Sun Jar

Sun Jar
I think it would be incredibly cool to have half a dozen of these things lined up on the railing of my deck. These "Sun Jars" are just a a traditional Mason jar with a highly efficient solar cell, rechargeable battery and low energy LED lamp inside. When the jar is placed in sunlight the solar cell creates an electrical current that charges the battery over a few hours. This energy is then used at night to power the three LED lamps inside the jar. Pretty damn cool. Probably cause cancer or something horrible though.

BMW X6

Oh, how I covet this car! It's like the Subie on steroids. And they're making a hybrid. So the hybrid only gets about 24 MPG, but that's 4 more MPG than I get now. Too bad it's north of 50K and god knows what the insurance cost will be but a guy can dream.

Couch/Bed

Couch/Bed
Resource Furniture has a line of space saving furniture that folds into various sleeping arrangements. Think Murphy bed and you're in the ball park.

My personal fav is the couch that contorts into a double bed with a railing and a latter and everything. I mean, how fucking cool and useful is that? Stick it in your home office (as if I have one) and when unexpected guests come over and need a place to crash, voila, the couch sleeps two. I can't speak for how comfortable it is, but it sleep two. What you want? Sleep Comfort?

You can see how the couch works here.

I think Mak and Fil would love one of these and, more importanly, it would look great in my apartment. More information here:

I can't seem to find any place online to buy them. I just emailed the designer, James Owen. I'm curious if he'll get back to me.
