Olympics in Hi-Def

Has anyone out there caught any of the coverage on HDTV that NBC keeps pumping? I wonder if it has been any good. I don't even know how many people have Hi-Def TVs. I suspect the numbers are tiny which makes me curious why NBC is putting so much emphasis on it. Still, I want to know what it's like, because it's, like, you know, cutting edge and all.

Gretchen Says:

I cannot tell the difference in quality between the hi-def broadcast and regular, on a technical level. I've heard hi-def is all in the adjustment, so maybe we are not getting hi-def in all its glory. The hi-def broadcasts keep on repeating the more popular events, but in greater detail, and with different commentary. So, for instance, last night, I wanted to see the Gymnastics Gala, just to catch one last glimpse of all the routines. On the prime-time version, we saw a few highlights, focusing mostly on the Americans, mixed in at any moment with track coverage and everything else. On hi-def, they showed the gala (which wound up being fairly cheesy and drawn-out) in its entirity, with every athelete and child performer.
