06 June 2006It Really Sucks When...
Another Reason to Hate George Bush
My brother, who is a huge Steelers fan, which makes sense, because like me, he grew up in a hard-working blue-collar steel working family in the heart of Pennsylvania, got an invite to the Steelers visit to the White House last week:

The event was cancelled due to "inclement weather" and instead he was invited to a reception at the office of man on dog boy himself, Rick Santorum, with a few of the players. I don't know if know if he went (Brian did you go?). He was so excited about seeing the team at the White House. It would have beem great. Sorry, Bri.

Hey - I did go to the Santorum event. It was in the Republican Caucus Room of the Russell Senate Office Building.
Unfortunately, it was really short. I did get to shake hands with Troy Polamalu - and take his picture (which I will send to you later tonight).
But right as I got there (which was on time, according to the email I got from the White House), the event was wrapping up - it was impromptu, and it was nice that they (it was Troy and Hines Ward - and Art Rooney - team Chairman/Owner) stayed in D.C. past their schedule to try and meet with their fans, even if only for 5 minutes. Hines and Troy were working the room and heading out - and they were mobbed, so it was hard to get in there for any real interaction - which is understandable. They are huge stars.
Dad - just like everything else cool in D.C. - I got in through a connection. A friend of mine who knows I'm a Steeler fan has a friend who works in the White House - got me on the list. Unfortunately, things did not work out. So the Steelers will just have to win back-to-back Superbowls so I can go again next year.

'Another Reason to Hate George Bush'.
1Sorry to hear that Brian got rained out of the Pittsburgh Steelers event at the White House. It would have been amazing. How did it come about that Brian was invited. Tell him to keep the invitation to show his grandchildren.
Love you,
